Neo fantastic and influenced by the cubist movement Picart Ledoux tapestry use the vocabulary of natural symbol like the sun , animal and musical instrument , mixing decorative subject with mythological scene. Picart Le Doux was a great master of Aubusson tapestry, which has produced over four hundred original tapestries in his lifetime. This one is an homage to spring and the sun , possibly about a poem from Jacque Prevert , edited by Robert Four, Soleil d'ete , ( summer sun ).Those tapestry placed on wall to bring an organic feel to a mid century interior answered the need to add some warmth to an otherwise cold mass produced style of furnishing so prevalent in the 1950's and 1960'.The lyrebird is a symbol of poetry, song, auditory skills, a love of language and poetic inspiration in all of us.
