Morier (1780-1849) was born and raised in Smyrna. He was secretary to the mission of Sir Harford Jones to Persia in 1808-09, and again to that of Sir Gore Ouseley which resulted in the Anglo-Persian treaty of 1812, as recorded in the first item. Morier also wrote novels set in the East, most notably The Adventures of Haji Baba of Ispahan.
Following Harford Jones's mission Morier was despatched back to London with the text of the Preliminary Treaty, and was accompanied by Mirza Abul Hasan, the first Qajar envoy to Britain.
