The Oil painting on canvas titled "The first leaves reflected in the water" is a luminous celebration of spring's awakening, when nature begins to whisper its renewal through tender foliage and shimmering reflections. The composition unfolds with tall trees in the foreground, their trunks painted with quick, vertical strokes of white and pale tones, while their crowns are alive with the golden greens of fresh leaves. These leaves, just beginning to appear, are not fully dense but scattered and delicate, allowing light and sky to filter through, filling the scene with air and brightness. The artist captures this fragile moment of transition, when the earth, having shaken off winter's silence, takes its first breath of new life. The central theme of the painting is not just the trees themselves but their reflection in the deep, cool waters that stretch across the lower half of the canvas. The surface of the water absorbs the colors of the world above: blues, greens, and violets are mingled with shimmering dabs of white and yellow, creating a mosaic of movement and stillness. The boats in the foreground, painted in warm earthy browns, rest quietly on the water, suggesting human presence yet not disturbing the calm. They become symbols of waiting, of patience, as though they too are listening to the song of the season. The reflection is not a perfect mirror but a dance of shapes and colors, echoing the gentle stirrings of nature's rebirth. The sky above contributes to the sense of freshness. Shades of turquoise, aqua, and light blue dominate, punctuated by soft swirls of lavender and white clouds. These brushstrokes are layered thickly with impasto, their texture reinforcing the vitality of the spring atmosphere. Behind the trees, splashes of crimson, orange, and deep purple suggest a distant line of land or blossoming vegetation, adding contrast and vibrancy to the otherwise cool-toned palette. The overall effect is one of balance between the warmth of life returning and the cool serenity of water and sky. The impasto technique, with its bold, textured strokes, makes the painting tactile and immersive. Each brushstroke is visible, almost sculptural, emphasizing the immediacy of the moment. The viewer can feel the rough bark of the trees, the fragile softness of young leaves, and the smooth, glassy surface of the water broken only by ripples of color.
