This oil painting cardboard, titled "Covered with grey clouds", the interplay of rich blues, earthy browns, and subdued grays enhances the atmospheric mood, evoking a sense of impending rain or the quiet stillness before a storm. The foreground is dominated by an expanse of rugged terrain, painted in a mixture of warm browns, deep oranges, and muted greens. The rough, textured brushwork gives the impression of uneven ground, covered in patches of dry grass and scattered vegetation. Slender trees with thin, elongated trunks rise from the land, their foliage painted in a mix of deep green, ochre, and hints of violet. The trees appear windswept, their forms slightly bent as if responding to the cool air moving across the landscape. Moving toward the middle ground, the painting transitions into rolling hills that separate the foreground from the town. These hills are painted in deep blues, rich purples, and cool greens, creating a striking contrast with the warm tones of the earth below. The thick application of paint in this section gives the impression of dense foliage or a vast, open plain stretching toward the horizon. The focal point of the painting is the distant town, perched atop the hill, bathed in soft, diffused light. The buildings are painted in warm creams, pale yellows, and soft pinks, with hints of red roofs scattered throughout. The artist uses short, deliberate strokes to depict the clustered rooftops and winding streets, creating a sense of depth and perspective. Among the buildings, two distinct towers or church spires rise, their light-colored surfaces catching the last glimmers of sunlight, standing in stark contrast to the darkened sky. The sky is a masterpiece of expressive brushwork, covered in rolling clouds painted in muted grays, soft lavenders, and pale blues. The thick impasto technique gives the clouds a sense of weight and movement, making them appear to shift and swirl across the canvas. Though the clouds dominate the upper portion of the painting, there is a faint glow of light near the horizon, suggesting the presence of the hidden sun, casting a diffused warmth over the distant town. The overall mood of the painting is contemplative and atmospheric, capturing the tension between the warm, sunlit town and the brooding, overcast sky. The contrast between the dark and light elements adds a dramatic quality, making the viewer feel as though they are witnessing a fleeting moment before the weather changes.
