Description
Introduced in 1978 - Fitz & Floyd's Lotus Bleu pattern was only produced for one year. Hence this service for twelve is very rare. Each octagonal porcelain form is underglaze decorated with a stylized lotus plant with blossoms in cobalt blue and burgundy over a white ground. All marked on the underside reads "Lotus Bleu in glaze blue FITZ AND FLOYD, INC. C MCMLXXVIII JAPAN FF 32". Seventy three piece set includes:
Twelve 10.25" Dinner Plates
Twelve 7.75" Salad Plates
Twelve 6.38" Bread & Butter Plates
Sixteen 3.25" Diameter x 2.25" High Cups
Eighteen 6.25" Saucers
One Teapot With Lid
One Creamer
One Sugar Bowl With Lid
All 73 pieces are In impeccable "like new" condition. They appear to have never been used. No chips, cracks, crazing, utensil marks, glaze loss, or issues of note.
Fitz & Floyd was founded in Dallas in 1960 by importers Pat Fitzpatrick and Bob Floyd. Quickly the firm became known for high quality hand-painted ceramic gift and dinnerware. However it was the innovative work of their in-house design staff that ultimately gained them fame and fortune. Including historically based designs, on-trend new creations, seasonal collections, and special commissions. Including a tea service given by the city of Dallas to Queen Elizabeth on the occasion of her visit in 1991. From its founding through their "glory" years (the last decades of the 20th century) Fitz and Floyd was deemed one the best manufacturers of tableware. And was sold by high-end retailers worldwide.
