Description
This painting titled "Colored Basket" on paper is by NW/Montana artist Rocky Hawkins.
Rocky Hawkins was born in 1950 in Seattle, Washington, and grew up in small towns near the Cascade Mountains. He earned his degree at the Burnley School of Professional Art. His art career began with illustration and commercial art; however he had been spiritually drawn to Native American culture since childhood and found that fine art was his path. Hawkins is most well known for Western art but he was also influenced by several members of the 1950's New York School of artists including Robert Motherwell, Willem de Kooning, and Mark Rothko. Abstract Expressionism remains a predominate roll in his artwork. Hawkins also studied art in Seattle with William Cummings and later with watercolorist Joseph Bohler
