It was in fact a catalogue of ornaments from the past, classified by style, and printed with the best savoir-faire of lithography by Firmin Didot, from famous familly of printers. "¨It was published in two volumes; the first 100 plates were published in ten installments between 1869 and 1873. "¨Shortly after published as a volume in 5000 copies, a second edition was printed in 1875.

He received the Legion of Honour in 1878."¨"¨Didot is the name of a family of French printers, punch-cutters and publishers. Through its achievements and advancements in printing, publishing and typography, the family has lent its name to typographic measurements developed by François-Ambroise Didot and the Didot typeface developed by Firmin Didot.
