Four English Creamware Transfer-Printed Soup Plates and Plates, 1791-1800. Comprising a 9.625-inch "AURORA of NEWPORT, JOHN CAHOONE" soup plate, probably Wilson Church Works, Staffordshire, 1791-1800, printed in black and painted in enamels, impressed "WILSON;" a 10.25-inch soup plate printed in black with a portrait of "THE RIGHT HON.BLE SIR ROBERT PEEL BAR.T MP;" a 9.875-inch plate, Herculaneum Pottery, Liverpool, circa 1800, printed in the center with a view of 'Columbia' holding an American shield and olive branch, in the foreground an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States, the eagle bearing a shield and banner inscribed "E PLURIBUS UNUM," in the background a pyramidal monument inscribed on the base "SACRED TO THE / Memory of/ WASHINGTON," impressed 'HERCULANEUM;" and a 10-inch plate printed in black with a version of the Great Seal of the United States.Literature: A soup plate identical to the first in the offered lot is discussed and illustrated in S.
