Francesco Patrizi , (or Patrizzi ), in Latin Franciscus Patricius Senensis ( Siena , 1413 - Gaeta , 1492 ), was an Italian writer , politician , Catholic bishop and humanist .
Belonging to the Sienese family of the Patrizi, members of Monte dei Nove , disciple of Filelfo , Francesco was involved in the conspiracy of 1456 against the Republic of Siena , forcing him into exile . In 1459 he was in Verona , where he came into contact with some humanists, including Antonio Brognanigo . Pope Pius II , who was his personal friend, on 4 October 1463 appointed him bishop of Gaeta , a position he held until his death. From 21 May 1461 , and for a short period, he was governor of Foligno , then in the Papal State , while in 1465 he was in Florence on behalf of Ferdinand I of Naples . In those years he frequented the Neapolitan cultural circles , distinguishing himself for his erudite readings of Him.
Among his main works, written in Latin , the De Regno et regis institutione of 1519 (which would be translated only after forty years, coming out among the Aldine , in 1559 , with the title Il sacro Regno de'l gran Patritio, of the true regiment, and of the true happiness of the prince, and humane beatitude ), in which he also deals with friendship (along the same lines as Cicero 's most famous work )
