19th century/Meiji period Japanese pottery kogo (box for holding incense during tea ceremony) in a form of a seated rooster. Wonderful potting with great facial expression and well delineated feathers, beautiful crackled glaze, red and black enamels. Bottom shows the seal of the potter. Wonderful piece in Japanese taste. Length 2 5/16 inches. Part of a small East Coast kogo collection.
