17c Chinese ceramic JAR Japanese collection

Description

17th century small Chinese white stoneware jar with underglaze blue painting. The jar comes from an old Japanese collection, this type of stoneware is known as Swatow ware, but more correctly named as Zhangzhou ware from Fujian province. Beautiful glaze with fine crackle, central register with excellent free painting of blooming flowers in reserves with stylized waves in between. Pendant leaves around its mouth, old Japanese kintsugi (gold lacquer) repair to the mouth. Very strong piece, has wonderful presence. Height 2 inches, diameter 2 1/8 inches.
