This book titled Cowboys Out Our Way is a book of cowboy cartoons by J.R. Williams and published by Charles Scribner’s Sons, New York, 1951. It has been around since 1937 and was reprinted every year for 15 years, with 1951 being the last I found. The introduction was written by J. Frank Dobie, a well-known writer of western books. Very popular niche book for the cowboy collector. J.R. Williams was a well-known cartoonist for newspapers. A little background: James Robert Williams (March 30, 1888-June 17, 1957) was a Canadian cartoonist who signed his work J.R. Williams. After years of submitting ideas for strips to various syndicates, his one-panel cartoon gag series ‘Out Our Way” appeared for the first time. The success of this series led to a Sunday feature, ‘Out Our Way, With the Willits.’ Artists George Scarbo and Neg Cochran assisted Williams on the strip that ran until 1978. Another strip he did was titled ‘Bull of the Woods’, about a machine shop boss. Williams bought his own ranch in 1930 and died in 1957.
