Pair of Chinese Embroidered Silk Shoes - Red, Phoenix and Floral Motif, Dated 1935

Description

Pair of Chinese embroidered silk slip-on shoes with vibrant red silk upper. Each shoe features silk and metallic thread embroidery depicting phoenix birds with elaborate tail feathers in gold and multicolor threads, surrounded by peony flowers and foliage.Leather soles with hand-stamped markings. One sole inscribed "Chicago 1935" with maker's information. Nailed construction with visible brass or metal nails at sole edges. Interior lined with aged cream fabric.

Condition

Sold as-is. Red silk with overall wear and fading. Embroidery shows thread loss and fraying in areas, particularly around edges. Metallic threads with oxidation. Interior lining discolored and worn. Leather soles dry with surface cracking and wear. Nails intact. Shoes retain shape with moderate age-related deterioration throughout.
