Description
Beautiful aged patina!
Hemba ancestor figures, known as Singiti, are among the most iconic works of Central African tribal art. They represent deceased chiefs who are honored by their communities and play a crucial role in legitimizing the authority of their successors. These sculptures convey a striking sense of dignity, wisdom, and serenity.
The Hemba people live in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, between the Lualaba River to the west and Lake Tanganyika to the east. Their territory is structured around the Luika River, which separates the northern and southern groups. They are mainly located in the southern Maniema region and the northern part of the Tanganyika province (formerly northern Katanga). The Hemba share close cultural and geographic ties with their neighbors, the Luba.
