CUTE SONGYE POWER FIGURE (NKISHI)
Beautiful fetish, the face is a female mask
The rare works of which the face is covered with a striped Kifwebe mask come from the south-east of the Songye country, from the Kisengwa region (Neyt)
The Mankishi (plural of "Nkishi") are figures of power,
They were used as relays with the spirits of the dead people very present in the religion.. They are used in "magic" rites serving the interest and well-being of an Individual or the entire community. (Art et pouvoir dans la Savane d'Afrique Centrale, p. 72-73).
