Description
Tibetan prayer wheels (Mani) are rotating cylinders and a religious devotion instrument for Tibetans.
A prayer wheel is a cylindrical mill that rotates around a vertical axis. It is usually made of metal, wood, or leather. They come in all sorts and sizes.
They are used to invoke a blessing for, for example, good health.
In the mill, there is a roll of thin paper with the prayer text/mantra of Ohm Mani Padme Hum.
It means: greeting to the jewel in the lotus.
According to Tibetan Buddhism, spinning a prayer wheel has the same effect as reciting the associated prayers or mantras. The wheel must be spun clockwise; otherwise, the inscription is read backward.
This is an ancient prayer wheel with the prayer roll inside the cylinder [faintly described / see close-up photo] the Ohm Mani Padme Hum.
With each turn of the mill, the sacred mantra [description on the prayer wheel] is activated as many times.
