Description

In ancient Rome, key rings were status symbols, implying that the wearer was wealthy enough to own a jewelry box, as the keys were specifically for jewelry boxes. This example is an exception, with its diminutive and precisely made key, obviously made for use. By extension, the jewelry box must have been of the best quality, suggesting contents of significant value. The band is 4 1/4, 1.14mm, made to wear between the first and second joints of the small finger as was the custom. It has been professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. See the reference image which shows the process. It is gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
