Description

Gilt bronze. Just over 5/8” (0.53”) height. Ribbed spherical form, with pointed bottom. Hollow construction. Romans were very dependent on the sea and used sea motifs, real and mythical extensively in their art and décor. As well, this may represent an acorn and by implication, the mighty oak. These are widely described as being worn by prostitutes. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat overlay restored, on an 18” gilt sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with a certification of authenticity.
