Bronze, about 2 1/8" in length, of elegant form, with fine patina. End of the 2nd century AD. Type 6, Die Romischen Fibeln aus Augst und kaiseraugst, Rihan. High faceted arched frame with spatulate decorated terminal. Fastened at the shoulder and serving as jewelry as well as a garment fastener. Condition as found. The original garment pin was patented two millennia later as the " safety pin" �.
