The face hand is incised with addorsed scrolls flanking a pendular element, the three forming a trefoil, a favorite Viking form. The form of the heart is stylized with the top cusp suggested. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Light surface texture from burial.
