Description
Faith Ringgold was the first highly collected Black woman artist. Her retrospective opened at the De Young Museum, and continued to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ringgold addresses social justice, history, and hope for a better way forward in her works. She refuses to shy away from historical truths.Ringgold spoke truth to the artworld at all levels. She insisted upon respect from curators and gallerists, and she gave advice freely to younger Black artists who became discouraged. The radical honesty in the text she included in this artwork helps us see into the lived experience of Black people in America. This scene, of a road leading to a small white house, is bordered by text that narrates the journey of two runaway slaves migrating North via the Underground Railroad. The print is one of many versions of the scene, which artist Faith Ringgold has sometimes titled Coming to Jones Road under a Blood Red Sky.Ringgold is best known for her "story quilts,"? which she started to make in the 1970s. These painted textiles unite African-American folk traditions and historically "feminine"? domestic art forms. It is in very good condition, signed by the artist, and offered unframed. We do not offer in-house shipping but you can arrange your own by contacting one of these four trusted shippers who can deliver your artworks to you safely and fully insured.
