Large Life-Size Bronze Reclining Deerhound/Borzoi-Type Sculpture, Early–Mid 20th Century

This striking large-scale bronze sculpture depicts a reclining sighthound of the Deerhound or Borzoi type, rendered at near life-size scale with exceptional realism and presence. Measuring approximately 40 inches wide, the sculpture captures the elegant proportions and refined anatomy characteristic of aristocratic hunting hounds long favored in European decorative arts.

The dog is shown at rest yet alert, with elongated forelegs, a narrow and finely modeled muzzle, semi-folded ears set high on the head, and a gently flowing coat articulated in confident, naturalistic strands. The overall silhouette is lean and athletic rather than heavy or compact, aligning closely with Scottish Deerhound and Borzoi forms rather than herding or working breeds. Such sighthound subjects were especially popular in late 19th- and early 20th-century European sculpture, where they symbolized nobility, loyalty, and refinement.
