Description
Pair of Chinese Export Famille Verte Porcelain Parrots, Kangxi Style, Mid-20th Century
A striking pair of Chinese export porcelain parrots, modeled in the Kangxi famille verte tradition and dating to the mid-20th century. Standing 9 inches high, these expressive birds are perched atop sculptural, pierced rocky bases, echoing the prestigious 17th–18th century prototypes made at Jingdezhen for the imperial and European markets.
The parrots are richly enameled in layered greens and turquoise tones, with hand-painted feather hatching, dotted breast fields, and scale-patterned wings. Their aubergine-glazed rockwork bases, detailed with yellow-rimmed openings, add a dramatic contrast to the saturated avian plumage. The iron-red beaks and talons supply further coloristic depth, enhancing the sculptural form.
While inspired by Kangxi originals"”now exceptionally rare and highly collected"”this pair offers the powerful decorative presence, historical reference, and charm of period examples at an accessible scale and price. Their size and mirror-image symmetry make them ideal for mantels, library shelves, consoles, and chinoiserie interiors.
The hollow interiors and unglazed biscuit footrims are consistent with mid-century export manufacture. In excellent overall condition with minor expected enamel and glaze irregularities from hand production.

A refined and vibrant pair for collectors of Chinese export porcelain, Asian decorative arts, and classic interior design.
