Description
Napoleon Bonaparte pants fabric fragment from the 1812 Russian campaign, attributed to trousers discarded during the retreat from Moscow. The small piece of brown leather, measuring approximately .5" x .25", is believed to be from pants worn by Napoleon and later recovered by his body servant, “Saferi.” The item is CAG encapsulated to 3.25" x 2.25". Accompanied by a copy of a 1914 letter providing provenance, the account describes how Saferi preserved the pants as a family heirloom after removing the gold buckles. The fabric shows expected age wear but remains well-preserved considering its historical context.
