
Description
The lot features a unique, beaded and cutout pipe bag from the Western Chiricahua Apache, this is a remnant pipe bag with the top section from circa 1880-1890's and the bottom section added later circa mid-1900's. The top section dates to the circa 1880-1890's from the Western Chiricahua Apache showing their classic documented diamond cutout design comrpised of Indian tanned thick buffalo hide, and old stroud woolen red and black trade clothe with floral beadwork. The top section has a stiff hide with some small cracking and some staining from old age and use. The bottom section is Reservation added in the mid-1900's showing a tanned hide with fringes section and large beaded medallion of glass trade beads showing a turtle effigy in colors of black, white and red. There are added drops of horse tail hair. Many old pieces of beadwork and parfleche were reused and not wasted which this being a unique example of such spanning a few generations of time. Measures overall 25.5-inches long by 7-inches wide.
