Description
Included in this lot is an Eastern Coyote Tanned Hide. The eastern coyote is a wild North American canine hybrid with both coyote and wolf parentage. The hybridization likely first occurred in the Great Lakes region, as western coyotes moved east. This hybrid is smaller than the eastern wolf and holds smaller territories, but is larger and holds more extensive home ranges than the typical western coyote. Western coyotes are smaller, more uniform in color (tan/gray), and adapted to drier, open western landscapes, while eastern coyotes (often called "coywolves") are larger, have thicker coats, varied colors (brown, reddish, black), longer legs, and carry more wolf and dog DNA from historic interbreeding, making them more robust for eastern forests. This Eastern Coyote hide features a thick fur of silvery grey and grizzled brownish red with a bushy black tipped tail. The hide was professionally tanned and prepared by taxidermist and is in good overall condition. Measures 50" long.
