Jean-Paul Riopelle (1923-2002) was a notable Canadian painter who received the Order of Canada in 1969. He studied at the ?cole des Beaux-Arts and moved to Paris in 1949. Surrealism influenced his early works, while his later style evolved to reflect Abstract Impressionism.
