ROMAN SORCERER'S RING, 1ST C.BC-1ST C.AD, SIZE 10 3/4

Description

Gilt bronze, large size 10 ¾. 3.0mm round face band flaring to the reeded shoulders. Raised oval bezel inscribed with the lituus, the wand of the augurs who were seers of the Roman pagan religion. They were believed to predict the future by " reading" the flight of birds in an area prescribed by the lituus. Some wear from its time of use but very well preserved with the 24karat gold surface restored. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
