VIKING FLINT STRIKER, 9TH-10TH CENTURY AD

Description

Elegant example of the Viking blacksmith's art with the striker bar terminating in a spike to engage a wood beam or tree and finger loop for maximum grip. The tail of the bar with a small nub, a decorative nub, a whimsical touch from the smith. 2 1/4" length. It is interesting, though not studied to our knowledge, that nowhere else in Viking blacksmithing are these subtle and sometimes whimsical details incorporated.
