The original garment pin patented two millennia later as the "safety pin." Bronze, just under 1 3/4" length, of delicate form probably for a delicate woman's garment. This example distinguished by being complete as made with its cross pin intact. In our experience, less than 1% survives unbroken. " Knee brooch" form with figured basal expansion curved to join the spring and its fastening pin. Worn on the shoulder. C.4th-6th century.
