About Artist Born in 1981 in Ayetoro, Wasiu Adelakun graduated with a B.A. in Islamic Education from Tai Solarin University of Education. An art enthusiast since childhood, Wasiu developed his passion for drawing and painting independently before formal education. Over a decade of collaboration with his brother, Saheed Adelakun, he further honed his artistic skills. Wasiu's artistic approach is distinguished by his innovative use of reusable waste, notably the jute sack, as a canvas. His works feature warm-toned backgrounds created from jute sacks, juxtaposed with cool and vibrant elements, evoking a sense of life and energy. With a focus on human and animal portraiture, Wasiu aims to bridge the gap between art creation and Islamic principles, which dissociates with creating figurative objects for idolatry purposes. He is a dedicated member of The Society of Nigerian Artists, Lagos State Chapter, showcasing his art annually at the esteemed October Rain Exhibitions since 2022.
