Title: Vintage Sterling Hinged Abalone Cuff Bracelet Signed GAR, Taxco, Mexico, 6.5", 1950's-1970's Description: Vintage Sterling Hinged Abalone Cuff Bracelet Signed GAR, Taxco, Mexico, 6.5", 1960'-1970's. "GAR" on Taxco sterling jewelry typically indicates a silversmith named William Spratling. Spratling was a silver designer, artist, and businessman who worked in Taxco, Mexico, and was known for his unique designs and the quality of his silver pieces. He established the Taxco Workshop in 1952 and was a significant figure in popularizing Mexican silver. Inlaid abalone on the edges of the bracelet with large rounded pillars at the top center where it opens/closes with four silver rounded half-bead accents. The bracelet is appx. 1-1/8" at top and tapers to 7/8" at the hinge. The opening is appx. 2.5" wide and 1.75" front-to back - can be worn on a slender wrist or slightly open on top with a slighterly larger wrist. The hinged cuff holds but it is not snappy. This is not the kind of bracelet that will fall of your wrist. It is just that it is appx. 55-65 years old and has some typical wear. There is one inlaid section at the back that is missing a piece of the ablone. It tests as sterling with an appx. weight of 42.09 grams. It's a beauty and will be noticed when worn.
