A North African copper and brass powder flask, probably Moroccan or Algerian, 19th century,
23cm high
of flattened circular form with tapering neck and suspension loop, the body repoussé and chased with dense foliate scrollwork and geometric ornament, one side centred by a large six-pointed star enclosing concentric bosses, surrounded by smaller domed studs and scrolling foliage, the reverse similarly decorated with radiating palmettes and stylised leaf motifs, the sides engraved with repeating crescent and foliate devices, retaining a leather shoulder strap
