Carl Friedrich Klein ( 1 December 1803 in Schweindorf , Wurttemberg - 22 April 1884 in Barmen ) was a German textile manufacturer.
He was the son of a pastor from Nordlingen . He completed a commercial apprenticeship in Augsburg, worked for a while in Munich and came to Barmen in 1828. In July 1828 he married Christine Schlatter, daughter of Anna Schlatter St. Gallen. They had seven children, including five sons. Klein was initially a partner in the Friedrich Rohrig company, which he later took over and renamed C. F. Klein-Schlatter. Klein's company produced fabrics and scarves. In 1868 he founded a weaving mill in Essen for Zanella - a lining fabric for men's clothing and uniforms - which operated up to 600 looms.
In 1836, the Kleins set up a preschool at Bruch, and later another children's school was added. In 1836, Klein also founded the first youth club in Prussia, Barmen-Gemarke (today CVJM-Adlerbrucke), as well as an orphanage, and was a member of various Christian organizations.
