
MILNE A. A.: (1882-1956) English author, creator of Winnie-the-Pooh. A good vintage signed sepia 10 x 13 photograph of Milne in an engaging close-up head and shoulders pose resting his chin on one hand. Photograph by Howard Coster, dating from 1926, signed by him in pencil to the lower mount and with his printed label (´Photographer of Men´) from Essex Street, Strand, affixed to the verso. Signed by Milne in dark fountain pen ink with his name alone to the lower photographer´s mount. Rare in this form. Some light age wear to the mount and a few minor traces of former mounting to the verso, otherwise about VG
Howard Coster (1885-1959) British photographer who opened his studio in London in 1926, the same year as the present portrait. One of Coster´s most iconic images was of Milne, his son Christopher Robin Milne, and Pooh Bear at Cotchford Farm, their home in East Sussex, also captured in 1926, the year that Winnie-the-Pooh was first published.
