A good, large vintage signed and inscribed 14 x 18 photograph by Mann, the absorbing image depicting the writer in a pensive head and shoulders pose seeated at his desk, a lit cigar in one hand and a pen in the other as he composes a letter. Photograph by Florence Homolka and signed by her in pencil immediately beneath the image. Signed by Mann in fountain pen ink to the lower photographer´s mount, ´Señor Antonio Aita, his good colleague, Thomas Mann´. Signed photographs of the Nobel Laureate of this size and quality are scarce and desirable, and the present example has an excellent association. Antonio Aita (1891–1974) Argentine writer, literary critic, and cultural mediator who played a significant role in connecting European and Latin American intellectual circles during the mid-20th century. Aita was also a dedicated student and promoter of Thomas Mann's work in the Spanish-speaking world.
Florence Meyer Homolka (1911-1962) American portrait photographer and socialite, the wife of film actor Oscar Homolka. Meyer photographed numerous artists, playwrights, actors, writers, composers, musicians, statesmen, film stars, and other celebrities of her day, and was a close friend and protégée of Man Ray.
