(Treasury Chambers), 3rd September 1725. The manuscript document is a warrant with instructions ´That you deliver and pay of such his Ma[jes]ty´s Treasure as remains in Your Charge unto the several persons hereunder named, who attend his Ma[jes]ty abroad for the Dispatch of the affairs of the Secretaries office under the Department of Charles, Viscount Townshend, the sume of Seven hundred ninety six pounds five shillings without account, to answer the allowances or Board wages his Ma[jes]ty is pleased to make them severally in Consideration of such their attendance for 91 days from the 3rd Day of June 1725.....´, the list naming seven individuals comprising George Tilson (´as Under Secretary´), Thomas Townshend, John Wall, Joseph Richardson, George Woodward, Adam Lawry, and Isaac Burrows. Countersigned in the margin by two other Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, Charles Turner (1666-1738) English lawyer and politician, and George Dodington, 1st Baron Melcombe (1691-1762) English politician. To the verso appears a manuscript receipt signed by the attorney John Walworth, acknowledging the complete payment. With blank integral leaf. Some light overall age wear and a couple of minor splits and tears to the edges, only very slightly affecting Dodington´s signature. G
Charles Townshend, 2nd Viscount Townshend (1674-1738) British statesman who served as Secretary of State for the Northern Department 1714-17, 1721-30. Townshend directed British foreign policy in close collaboration with his brother-in-law, Prime Minister Robert Walpole.
