Title: Oil painting Moonlit night over the city Oksana Kalenyuk Description: No.AAA5063The oil painting on Cardboard titled "Moonlit Night Over the City" is a mesmerizing expressionist portrayal of a dreamlike urban landscape bathed in the quiet poetry of moonlight. Rendered in thick, impasto strokes, the scene comes alive with swirling textures, rich color contrasts, and a luminous celestial atmosphere. The composition invites the viewer into a world where imagination and reality meet under a sky painted in the deepest shades of midnight blue. The sky dominates the canvas, flowing with dynamic movement and painterly rhythm. Using varying shades of cobalt, ultramarine, and violet, the artist creates a vast nocturnal expanse that feels both infinite and intimate. Flecks of yellow and orange punctuate the darkness, symbolizing distant stars that shimmer like scattered embers. These glowing accents, although small, bring warmth and vitality to the cool blues, and suggest a silent harmony between the heavens and the earth below. A crescent moon curves gently into the upper left quadrant of the painting, its pale yellow hue providing a focal point that glows softly amidst the swirling sky. The brushwork around it suggests winds, clouds, or celestial movement, imbuing the moon with a magnetic energy that seems to ripple across the entire scene. This luminous crescent serves as a visual anchor and a poetic symbol, evoking reflection, mystery, and timeless wonder. Beneath this star-studded canopy lies the city—a compact cluster of illuminated buildings rendered with lively dabs of paint in ochre, white, amber, and teal. The architectural forms are loosely defined, their exact edges melting into the surrounding colors, as if the city is in a state of dreamy suspension. Among the rooftops, a domed structure, likely a cathedral or prominent civic building, rises prominently, its dome aglow with the same golden tones as the moon. It suggests a sacredness or cultural importance, serving as a beacon of light and continuity in the sleeping city. In the foreground, thick layers of lavender, periwinkle, and lilac evoke the uneven texture of a snowy or stone-covered ground. These pastel tones lead the eye inward toward the buildings, creating a sense of gentle movement and transition. The lower area of the painting also reflects subtle hints of pink and magenta, adding vibrancy and echoing the cosmic energy swirling above.
