Original 1936 German "IV Winter Olympic Games" lithograph poster advertising the 1936 Winter Olympic Games in the Bavarian village venue of Garmisch - Partenkirchen, Germany on February 6-16 1936. The poster features artwork by Ludwig Hohlwein (1874-1949) in the bold Sachplakat graphic style. The poster features a skier celebrating his victory against a backdrop of the Alps mountains. The poster was published by the "Organizing Committee For The IV Olympic Winter Games 1936" and the Reichsbahn Central Office for the German Railway Travel Office in Berlin, and printed by Mandruck A.G., Munich, Germany. Vertical and horizontal crease, small black scuff marks to lower right corner, otherwise good condition and color. From a Lynchburg, Virginia Estate that featured items from the 1936 German Summer and Winter Olympics. Measures 8 1/4 inches width x 11 10/16 inches height. Cataloguer's Note: Two original sizes of this poster were published for the 1936 Winter Olympics. 106,150 larger format posters were published in several foreign languages with only 22,450 copies of this rarer smaller size published in German only.
