Description
Rare & amazing set of Haviland Limoges china made for C H Field Department store in Chicago somewhere between 1882 and 1941. This is a huge set that includes many serving pieces. It has been stored away over the years and does not appear to have been used very much if at all. It is in new condition! It is so unusual to find a set of this age and quality with so many serving pieces. When valuing the set for consideration to purchase, please note that each serving piece sells for several hundred dollars each. I elected to not break up the set and you will notice that some pieces have 9 and others 11. This perhaps was a service for 12 initially. Included is a photo of the set spread out on a large dining room table.
A note about the colors. The rim is bright & shiny gold with designs throughout. The bottom is white (cup) and the center is a creamy white with a slight tint of green. I did my best to capture the colors in my photos.
Includes: 9 Dinner Plates 10 1/2", 8 Salad Plates 7 1/2", 9 Bread Plates 6 1/4", 11 Shallow Sauce Bowls 5 1/2" x 1" high, 2 Oval Bowls 9 1/8" x 7, 1 Large Attached Gravy Boat10" x 4 1/4", 1 Smaller Gravy Boat (different shape) 10" 4" high, 1 Sandwich Tray 14 1/2" x 6", 2 Oval Platters 14 1/2" x 10 1/4", 1 Large Serving Bowl 10" x 3 1/4" high, 1 Oval Serving Dish 9" x 5 1/2", 9 Cups 3 1/2" opening x 2" high, 10 Flared Saucers 5 1/2" x 1" (these may or may not be saucers, cups may have been meant to be used alone,) 1 Large Oval Covered Serving Dish 13" x 6" high
CH Field Haviland is the decorating mark (trademark, identity) of Robert Haviland and C. Parlon. It will always be stamped on the back of every item as proof of manufacturer, sometimes alongside the pattern name, artists number, designers name, or pattern range (eg Mozart). In researching this mark (orange/rust color), I found that it could be anywhere from 1882 - 1941. After 1941, the mark was red. I can not find any comparable pieces online and Replacements Ltd can not identify it.
Robert Haviland and C. Parlon have been using this mark since 1941 when it purchased the mark from a company called Gerard, Dufraisseix and Abbot which was derived from the original Charles Field Haviland company. Robert Haviland was the grandson of Charles Field Haviland.
