
Description
A gorgeous French Table Top Secretaire Stationary box, c. 1840s. This is an exceptional Louis Phillipe stationary cabinet made of rare Amboyna wood with exterior front inlay marquetry and a checkerboard top trim. It is made with a roll top, two interior drawers and a cabinet on the bottom. The top drawer locks as well as the bottom cabinet. Key is with the desk.
These smaller sized secretairies were used as a traveling companion for writing letters, notes, keeping jewelry inside the drawers and for the convenience of the person to whom the desk belonged.

Condition Notes: There are some minor smudge marks on the front of roll top. The right side of the desk has 3 small pieces of veneer missing and a piece that covers a nail at the bottom. All very small. There appears to be a small repair at the bottom right of the cabinet door. You can see in the photo a little darker piece of wood on the bottom right side. On top, one, very small missing piece of veneer. The drawers all open easily and the roll top opens easily as well.. The key locks the center drawer easily, but the top drawer and bottom cabinet door take a little finessing but locks.
