Description
Treloar, Shallow Water, Verdigris-Patinated Copper Panel, No. 3000/c, 36" x 44"
A striking verdigris-patinated copper wall panel titled "Shallow Water" by Treloar, numbered 3000/c and signed/inscribed on the reverse. The work measures 36 inches high by 44 inches wide and is mounted to its original wood backing with a simple perimeter frame and hanging wire.
Rather than being painted, the composition is formed entirely through controlled oxidation, chemical patination, and heat activation of the copper surface. Layers of salt solutions, mild acids, and pigment-oxide washes were applied and halted at varying stages, producing a richly organic surface of sea-green blooms, mineralized turquoise, bronze undertones, and deep earthy blacks. The resulting effect evokes tidal shallows, submerged stone, reef formations, and the atmospheric diffusion of light underwater.
Areas of fine granulation and "blooming" produce delicate, cellular patterning, while broader sweeps of patina create a sense of movement and depth. The surface reads as both abstract and elemental, making it especially effective in contemporary interiors, coastal environments, or architectural settings that benefit from material warmth and natural color variance.
A compelling and meditative large-scale wall piece that brings the quiet movement of water and time-worn surface into a refined interior.
