A Map of the County of Kent—Dover Castle and Towne'. A large and decorative map of the County of Kent, originally published in 1719 in John Harris’s The History of Kent. Engraved by Samuel Parker and based on the celebrated map of Kent by Philip Symonson first issued in 1596. The map is surrounded by an elaborate border incorporating 118 heraldic coats of arms of the county’s noble families. A detailed inset view of Dover Castle and Town appears at lower right, while London is shown to the north-west. Tables list the county’s lathes, bailiwicks, hundreds, market towns, cities, ports, and franchises. Printed on two conjoined sheets, blank verso, with tight margins as usual. . Engraven by Samuel Parker. Published 1719. Early 18th century folio antique copperplate map. Size 58 x 84 cm | 22.5 x 33.0 inches. Condition: Good; suitable for framing.
