Description
Set of three 19th century hand-thrown French confit pots made in the Toulouse region and stamped "Inalterable," meaning they are durable, resistant to acids, fats, and general deterioration. The midsized pot is marked "1½" which is an old French measure of volume indicating the capacity of the pot. Traditionally used in Southern France, condit pots were used to preserve meats before refrigeration. These earthenware vessels are celebrated for their rustic beauty and utilitarian design.
Each pot is crafted from terracotta and finished with a rich, warm salt glaze in shades of chestnut brown, accented with speckles and subtle imperfections that speak to its hand-thrown origins. The classic silhouette features a rounded body, sturdy base, and looped handles for easy carrying.
