Description
This is a George Robert Bucher string/twine wall hanging, art sculpture, from the 1960s. To me, this sculpture looks like a celebration of a union"”when two become as one. Such a good-looking, bold piece of art! Not only does its size capture one's gaze, but the pattern of the twine is mesmerizing, as well! Very unique and truly a statement maker"”weighing in at 11.7 lbs.
This piece was made between 1961 through 1965, before he did freestanding pieces. Butcher attended the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He served as an Associate Professor of Art, at Sioux Falls College in South Dakota, from 1961 to 1965. Then from 1965 to 1984, he was the first full-time art professor at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. George exhibited his artwork all along the east coast and in 1966, he was only the second person to ever have his artwork exhibited at the state museum, in Pennsylvania.
