Description
Fully restored antique Swedish Rococo "Emmastol" (Emma Chair), a classic piece of 19th-century Swedish furniture design in the Rococo Revival Style (Swedish counterpart to Victorian), now modernized with a crisp glazed linen stripe.
This sculptural armless chair c. 1880, often referred to in international markets as a "Slipper" or "Boudoir" Chair, features the signature high, curved back and generous, low-set circular seat that defined the style. The original dark wood base and elegantly turned front legs on casters have been preserved with the original mahogany-toned patina. The back is finished with subtle button tuft pulls, a hallmark of the Rococo Revival Era.
The chair has undergone a complete restoration by our in-house craftspeople.
"• Structure: The frame is sound and sturdy.
"• Upholstery: All internal components have been professionally renewed, including new springs, webbing, padding, and foam, ensuring optimal modern comfort and longevity.
"• Fabric: The chair is impeccably finished in a top-tier designer textile: Rose Tarlow Melrose House "Gigi" Stripe in the color "Ciel." This exquisite glazed linen ticking stripe, though named 'Ciel' (sky blue), presents in some lights as sage green. The upholstery features a clean, high-end finish with a self-welt around the edges and a double-welt detail at the base, showcasing the quality of the restoration.
This piece beautifully marries the elegance of 19th-century Swedish design with the sophisticated, timeless quality of modern high-end textile design, making it a perfect accent chair for a bedroom, dressing room, or living area.
The "Emmastol" (Emma Chair) is a specific Swedish furniture type that rose to prominence during the Rococo Revival period (mid to late 19th century).
"• It was named after 1821 and designed primarily as an upholstered ladies' chair.
"• Its distinctive low, armless, and wide profile was specifically intended to accommodate the large, fashionable crinoline skirts and elaborate dresses of the era, offering both comfort and elegance.
"• The style is a beautiful example of how Swedish artisans interpreted the more opulent international Victorian and Neo-Rococo movements with a slightly lighter, more restrained touch.
