(1824 - 1905) Union brigadier general, he won fame for his heroic efforts at the Battle of Chickamauga and the Chattanooga Campaign and was awarded the Medal of Honor. Interesting partly-printed war-date D.S. ‘A. Baird’ 1p. oblong folio, ‘In the Field’, Tennessee, November, 1864, a report of 'Persons and Articles employed and hired', namely four ‘contrabands’, or freed slaves, employed as teamsters. Baird signs at lower-left in black ink, adding his rank ‘Brig Genl’. Folds, otherwise in fine condition.
