(1821 – 1896) Union brigadier general who led a division at Atlanta and in Sherman's March to the Sea. A.L.S., 2pp. 4to., Zanesville, OH, to ‘Gen Hick’, likely fellow Ohioan brigadier general Andrew Hickenlooper. Leggett send his regrets that he will not be able to attend a meeting of a veterans’ society, likely the Society of the Army of the Tennessee of which Hickenlooper was corresponding secretary, in Louisville, as he will be occupied with business in Chicago. He also send his annual membership dues for the society. He signs ‘Leggett’ in black ink at the conclusion. Shows original mailing folds, with three cello tape marks to the second page, otherwise very good to fine.
