(1807 - 1891) Confederate major general who led armies at Bull Run and Seven Pines. Johnston is perhaps best remembered for his stubborn defense of Atlanta and his resistance to Sherman's March to the Sea. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Baltimore, Nov. 14, 1865 to J. Harrison[?] Thomas. Business dealings, in part: '...I am anxious to confer with yourself, Mr. Smith & Montague together in relation to the affairs of the National Express & Transp'n Company. Will you please be so kind as to meet those gentlemen & myself at Mr. Montagues...' Fine condition, matted with an engraving of Johnston in uniform, all set into a slightly-scuffed wood frame.
