Description
A rare, war-date manuscript D.S. 2pp. legal folio, ‘Second Judicial District’ Texas, Apr. 1, 1865, a writ of habeas corpus signed by Judge A. D. McGinnis in the case of Joseph Long. Long, a justice of the peace in Caldwell Co. State of Tx., was present at the raising of Capt. Tom G. Nixon’s Reserve Corps in the Confederate States Army, and there informed that he was exempted from service. At the same time, Long was advised to join the company and thus was duly sworn into service although ironically returning to Caldwell County only to be arrested. Judge McGinnis attests to the verity of the facts in this unusual case. Very good.
